Phone-Free Space Since August 2024 – Continuing in 2025

CATCH Prep launched a phone-free learning environment in August 2024 through the Yondr Program, and we will continue to implement this initiative in the upcoming school year. The goal is to enhance teaching, learning, and overall student engagement by minimizing distractions during the school day.

The Yondr Program, successfully used in over 2,000 schools across 16 countries, supports focused learning by allowing students to be more present and connected with their teachers and peers.

How It Works:

Each student receives a personal Yondr pouch to securely store their phone upon arriving at school. Phones remain in the pouch for the duration of the school day. Students are responsible for bringing their Yondr pouch to and from school and maintaining its condition.

Why It Matters:

While we recognize the role phones play in students’ lives, research and feedback show the benefits of limiting phone use during school hours:

  • 84% of schools reported improved student engagement

  • 72% observed better student behavior

  • 68% noted academic improvement

  • 86% of surveyed schools saw positive effects on student safety and wellness

Frequently Asked Questions:

How can I reach my child during the school day?
Please contact the main office at 323-293-3917 if you need to speak with your child.

What happens in a school emergency?
We follow our emergency preparedness protocol to ensure student safety. You will be notified according to those procedures.

Is my child’s phone secure?
Yes. Phones remain locked in each student's personal Yondr pouch, which is kept in their backpack throughout the day.

What if a pouch is damaged or a student uses their phone?
The Yondr pouch is school property. If it is damaged or a student is found using their phone:

  • The phone and pouch will be collected by administration.

  • A parent or guardian must retrieve the phone on a designated day.

  • Detention may be assigned as a consequence.

  • All damage is assessed by the school or Yondr staff, regardless of intent.

We appreciate your continued support in making CATCH Prep a focused, phone-free learning environment through the Yondr Education Program. If you have any questions, please call us at 323-293-3917.
